CIRCUMCISION

Dear Reader, I tried to find out a bit about the word "Circumcision" and all the searches showed results about male or female circumcision which really wasn't the reason why I checked the word out.

Circumcision is defined as the removal of the foreskin of the penis in males or the removal of the clitoral hood of the clitoris in females according to the English dictionary and after several other 'seemingly fruitless' searches, I decided to come up with my definition of circumcision as "the removal of something" whatever that might be.

I randomly came across Deuteronomy 30:6 which says "The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live." NIV

The word circumcision being used on the heart did not make sense at all to me and that was why I tried to check the dictionary and the web.

A little research about the passage shows that the word circumcision was used to show the Jews that God was going to cut their hearts to thoroughly convince them of sin, and this was going to cause their hearts to be open and exposed to pain because the foolishness and hard-heartedness which they had was going to be taken away. The whole process was likened to circumcision because circumcision was a common practice among the Jews.

In the Jewish culture, all males were expected to be circumcised eight (8) days after they were born as a remembrance of the covenant God had with their ancestor Abraham. So you see, the Jews fully understood this concept and they could easily relate to it.

After circumcision, it is believed that the individual is less likely to contract certain diseases that should normally befall him/her later in life. The heart circumcision is also supposed to prevent one from threading the path of sin.

The second part of the passage says that after the circumcision, then you will love God with all your heart and live. It means that loving God before a heart circumcision is a very difficult and seemingly impossible task. Immediately circumcision gets done, it then becomes possible and then we learn to truly live.

If you really want to love God this year as you planned to and to truly live the life that He has prepared for you, a heart circumcision is necessary so that the Holy Spirit thoroughly convinces you of sin and takes away your hard-heartedness. He also prevents you from treading the path of sin and gives you the grace to love God truly and deeply.

Dear Reader, I can't say that this circumcision is a one-time process because we need to constantly get our hearts circumcised to learn to love God. I also have to say that as I write to you I am asking the Holy Spirit to perform one on my heart right now because I need a better 'love-experience' in this journey.

I hope that as you read this, a circumcision is performed on your heart and that you learn to constantly have your heart circumcised as you live. Thank you for reading, please drop your comments also.

PS: It is truly hard to find a balance between school and writing. I have so many school-related tasks and squeezing time to come up with this seems like a crime. Anyways, I'll try to show up and be consistent as much as I can.
