CORONARY HEART DISEASE

Dear Reader, it's a cool evening over here, and I hope that it's the same at your location.

So it's been from one activity to the other, one test or assignment to the other, and I almost forgot that a new post was due today, until my heart's alarm reminded me that today is Wednesday.

I mentioned 'heart alarm' on purpose, because today's blog post deals with the heart. A lot of us know about "Heart Attacks", but go crazy when we hear that we or our loved ones have been diagnosed with "Coronary Heart Disease". Well, Coronary Heart Disease popularly called Coronary Artery Disease is a condition where the arteries of the heart which supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart narrow or get blocked as a result of plaque (mostly cholesterol) buildup. With time, there can be total blockage of blood supply to the heart if this disease is not detected on time, resulting in sudden or abrupt death.

For most people, Heart Attack is often the first clue that they might be suffering from Coronary Heart Disease. Other symptoms include chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, weakness, and pain in the arms or shoulders. Some of the risk factors that predispose one to this disease include; being overweight, physical inactivity, unhealthy eating habits, and smoking. The remedies then will be exercise, healthy eating, stress relief, and taking of prescribed medications.

We all will agree that the rate of heart attacks, and other heart-related diseases are on the increase. That must have been the reason why the Bible cautioned that "We guard and keep our hearts with all vigilance, and above all that we guard, for out of it flow the springs of life in" Prov. 4:23 AMP

We can simply say that just as you would exercise regularly and watch your eating habits in order not to damage your heart, so also should you watch every thought, deed, and content that you allow to dwell in your heart. For the Bible to have cautioned that you guard your heart with all vigilance,  it means that a lot of things are battling for your heart. These things want to come into your heart and block them from being sensitive to God. A statement says "If you tell me what you think, I'll tell you who you are and the life that you live." The Bible also stresses that "As a man thinketh, so is he" Prov. 23: 7. You are surely a reflection of your thoughts, and they largely emanate from your heart. When you guard your heart, you not only prevent perverse things from dwelling, but you also reduce the risk of coming down with Coronary Artery Disease๐Ÿ˜….

Dear readers, for the next two weeks and beyond, I urge you all to guard your hearts with all diligence and ensure that you exercise regularly and watch what you eat. The issues of life are numerous, but your heart is of utmost importance to your doctors and me.

Have an amazing week, and remain truly blessed.
